That's part of what allowed him to leave. Kasumi's feelings weren't enough to keep him around, but everyone else together could have done it.Ironically, I think even The Superior could have kept him around simply because of Sumika's obsessiveness.

And while it's true few are around to remember him anyway (and in the future, history will probably only remember Yuuko) it still feels like a major loss because of his talent and dedication. He was like the Audie Murphy of the BETA war, even the Volks Squadron got remembered.

A few scenes of Alternative (pic related) and the whole finale got to me like a schoolgirl.
Planetarian got me on the verge of tears, hardly surprising since that's the whole point of the game.
Cross Channel didn't make me cry, but whenever the Taichi is broken/doesn't function well as a human being theme came up I felt a lump in my throat.
Same thing when Ati got her memories erased at the end and when Archer and Shirou fought in UBW.
I think I cried on Tsugumi's end.

Alternative.
When Yuuko says in this scene "See, Marimo? These are your children." while everyone is taking off in a shuttle towards almost certain death I just broke down. The whole ending fight where almost everybody dies had my eyes tearing, but not so much.
