Maybe they're westaboos in terms of entertainment they look for but not in day to day life.

It also isn't just English being useful. Its night and day between Asians, especially Japs and Koreans, who know it or don't. Where was an Azur Lane/Gacha event awhile ago that they did where the VA for a certain character appeared in costume, live. They were doing things in both English and Japanese since it was an EN event, but where the others were stiff, she adapted easily to the lines and adlibbing as well, even making some jokes. English and even Spanish are popular, adaptable languages.

Oh and looked her up, turns out she spent highschool in the states.
