This means less than some people think it does. Pretty much just adds backstory, as Ran remains Ran.

>Like Ran, Chen is actually "the shikigami possessing a bakeneko", but in her case the possessed bakeneko is a clearly distinct being. As she is vulnerable to water both while possessed and in her original state, splashing water on her will dispel the shikigami.
This one's kinda weird since Chen's profile in PCB says there's no difference in personality between "possessed" and "non-possessed" Chen.

>Kaguya + Eirin

On the way towards IN, I had released a lot of works that gradually built up the world, so I was finally able to make a character like Kaguya.
Obviously, she's from the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

Eirin let me reach back even further than Kaguya-hime, to ancient times,which ties the world of Touhou to Japanese mythology.
She's based on Omoikane, the god of wisdom, which broadens the scope of the setting and lets me write deeper stories. Also, she uses medicine so she has a bit of a nurse motif.
It's kinda like "this is how a nurse would show up in Touhou!" (lol)

>Tewi + Reisen

Tewi comes from the fact that back in EOSD everyone was so hungry for characters that they pounced on the midbosses who I hadn't put any thought into.
I thought I couldn't let that happen again, so I made Tewi.
Koakuma and Daiyousei were pretty much just "they drop power-ups and aren't fighter jets." PCB had Lily, but I wanted to do something more with Tewi.
There were both Moon Rabbits and Earth Rabbits, and the moon rabbits were connected to Japanese mythology through the Lunar Capital, so I connected the Earth Rabbits to the White Hare of Inaba.
As for Reisen, I just kinda felt like having giving her crumpled ears.
I gave her a uniform because I got the feeling that I didn't have anyone who was a bunch of things lumped together.
