I've been thinking about this all morning. I've been numberfagging for Gura for some time now. I'm ecstatic that she's the most subscribed to Hololive. And although she's an incredible talent and her personality along with the benefit of speaking English and thus being able to reach a wider audience than the JP Holos are the primary reasons why she's been able to come this far, the reason why I'm so happy for her is personal, and it's because she's a loli.

Its fucking hard to be a lolicon in 2020. Everywhere I look its "that site you like got shut down", "that game you were excited for got censored", "that anime you were watching got cancelled right after the loli episode", "that character you've played in that video game for years got aged up", "that anime director you like says the industry won't let him make the stories he wants to write anymore".

And every which way you turn you're met by normalfags applauding the decisions and calling you a creep for being upset by it.

Then along comes Gura and overnight becomes the most popular character in a huge globe spanning franchise. Normalfags even tried to cancel her for being "predatorbait" and failed. It's incredible the amount of support she's gotten.

And again, for most people, Gura's design doesn't even register. Above all, it is her personality and talent and ability to speak English that has made this possible. But you can't deny that her design is also a large part of her identity, and being able to succeed in this climate, in the current year, with a primarily English speaking audience and everything going against her, makes me think that I'm not alone and that things are going to be okay.
