I know that feeling. There's the urge to make a design more unique and original to yourself, but it clashes against the fact that you've already fallen in love with the KC design. What I personally did was take a look at other wolf-like monstergirl images I really liked, asked what I liked about them visually, and adapted some ideas from them.
But hey, you do you. It also helps when, if you're not able to draw her yourself, you choose an artist who can knock it out of the park.
