Superchat lesson time

Technically, saying 30/35/35 or 50/50 after youtube are all correct and anyone who's not a school dropout with basic math skills could see they mean the same. The thing here is from which amount they calculate those percentages. Most people just assume they are calculated over the initial superchatted amount, which is totally wrong.

For example, nip gachikoi sends a red akasupa. It costs 12,000 yen (instead of 10,000 yen because youtube ups the prices for apple devices to compensate for the extra cut they have to give to Apple). Playboard and individuals tracking superchats register 12,000 yen.

VAT is applied first since the superchat is still a product. In Japan, it's 10% (in other countries the % varies). 1,200 yen in sales taxes for Japan that Youtube withholds. 10,800 yen left

Now it's Apple fee time! 30% of the amount after sales tax goes to Apple (look up spotify-apple for example). 3,240 yen to Apple that Youtube withholds. 7,560 yen left

(There's also credit card transaction fees, but the percentages are small so for the sake of simplicity, they will be omitted.)

Now, the Youtube-Cover-Holo split of 30/35/35 (or also called 50%/50% between cover and the holo after "youtube cut") is applied to the remaining 7,560 yen

Youtube gets 30%: 2,268 yen (5,292 yen left)
Cover gets 35% of 7,560 yen (or 50% of the remaining 5,292 yen) = 2,646 (22% of the initial amount)
Holo gets 35% of 7,560 yen (or 50% of the remaining 5,292 yen) = 2,646 (22% of the initial amount)

Without the Apple tax, the 1h akasupa would cost 10,000 yen

Japan VAT 10%= 1,000 yen, 9,000 yen left
Now, the Youtube-Cover-Holo split of 30/35/35 (or also called 50%/50% between cover and the holo after "youtube cut") is applied to the remaining 9,000 yen

Youtube gets 30%: 2,700 yen (6,300 yen left)
Cover gets 35% of 9,000 yen (or 50% of the remaining 6,300 yen) = 3,150 (31.5% of the initial amount)
Holo gets 35% of 9.000 yen (or 50% of the remaining 6,300 yen) = 3,150 (31.5% of the initial amount)
