Things have felt strained ever since that night where Reimu snapped and revealed what she's truly capable of, despite the love that hasn't vanished it was all the little things that changed that you couldn't help but notice. Where once she showed appreciation for what you do with a simple smile or offer to help the smiles faded and were replaced with her default emotionless expression she gave to strangers and annoyances. You don't support her for thanks, nor do you do it for appreciation but there isn't a soul in the world that doesn't value it and you're no exception. You could tell the balance in the relationship was gone, she didn't seem to ask about what you valued anymore and didn't consider you in her decisions anymore and took for granted what you do for her. You were processing these thoughts as you worked in the kitchen while making lunch, lately the wild youkai have been winding down as they've either been exterminated by hunters, Reimu, or turned to other food sources and thus weren't a threat anymore so today Reimu had off.
Like usual the lazy miko took to her veranda to soak up the spring sun and started napping despite the smell of cooking food wafting out from the kitchen. It wasn't long before you were done making the Ikanago, a dish made from small eels that spawned rapidly this seasons in most of the waterways. You were confident she'd love it as you were able to get it fresh this morning and knew it paired well with sake, you were pulling out all the stops after all since more then anything you wanted to see her usual smiling face you've grown accustomed too and got ready the cask of plum wine you've had fermenting. It wasn't long till you plated the food and brought out both of your servings on trays and placed the perpendicular on the table, fondly remembering the days when Reimu would get cozy at your side while eating. after setting the table you approached the sleepy miko, gently shaking her shoulder and whispering, "wake up, its time for lunch dear~" and she roused from her sleep, rubbing her eyes as you admired your lovers' adorable mannerisms. Sadly her features soon turned back to that emotionless facade that pains you more then any wound could as she woke properly and gave a small nod, "right". She got up and and sat at the table as you were moving inside the kitchen to gather the cups to enjoy the plum wine and once you turned back to make to the table you were disappointed to learn that she moved her tray to the opposite side of yours, but that didn't stop your stride. With a prideful voice you announced, "today should be the day when the plum wines' fully ready so I thought we could enjoy it with the eels!" to that Reimu paused for a second and with a voice that hinted more at tiredness then anything else she let out a, "We'll see if you could make it right...". Her reaction wasn't what you were hoping for, two months ago when you started it you knew Reimu couldn't wait to try it, but recently its been tiresome in how much she's been criticizing you for things you know she likes. You'd never voice it though, not only unaware of how things were to become but also because deep down in your soul you felt fear ever since that night, you were unwilling to raise your voice to Reimu again and simply accepted her behavior as the subtle fear warned against angering her again. "I hope it meets your expectations then!" you forced out a cheerful reply as you poured a cup for her from the cask, the fermented plums poured out into the cup along with the sweet liquid into her cup, you knew that liked to nibble on them as she drank but with a reluctant face she accepted the cup and sighed as she took her first sip. "Its not the worst but really you need to learn how do these things properly!" you nodded and agreed generically as you took a sip yourself from your cup, the flavor was flawless and exactly as she liked it but the subtle fear kept you from voicing your opinion.
Reimu drank a cup despite her protests initially, soon another and another as the sour sweetness masked the alcohol and you as you were both finished with the lunch you made to take the dishes to the wash basin and after you made to move the cask of wine to storage as well which Reimu put her hand on it as you did and said in a firm voice, "leave it..." you didn't want to make her mad so you cautiously said, "Dear, plum wine takes a while to make... surely you wouldn't want to waste it all during the middle of the day?". With those words Reimu poured the cup back and devoured the plum in her cup as well before looking you in the eyes and saying slightly more tipsy, "I'll drink what I please dammit! what are you trying to piss me off again?!". You could do nothing but take a seat next to her and sip at your own wine while she got drunk off your labor and patience not wanting to make her more cross, you simply tried keeping the wine offset with snacks as inside you felt nothing but a deep despair...
