Read the sticky on /fit/. Sadly, there's a lot of faux shit regarding diets and exercise and while /fit/ isn't the end all solution/know it all, the sticky provides good information. And if you do decide to get starting strength (a book with a good beginner weight training routine), ignore the diet advice in it. And keep in mind the best workout routine is worth nothing if you don't stick to it. And take another method to track progress than a scale. Scales are good but they don't differ between bones, fat, muscle and water (weight yourself at different times on one day to see how much it differs without having your body composition changing much, to see what I mean). So I recommend to photograph yourself once a month or using a measuring tape since your goal is to loose fat and not weight (I assume at least).
Also food plays a major role and if you eat too much of the hight calorie stuff, there's little to no chance to burn it. So cut down sugary drinks, sweets and snacks and replace them, if you must, with something less calorie dense which keeps you sate.
