That's the whole point. You can solo all main story cards if you have the right girlfriends, with all but the Interlude doable for 8sp. That's not the case for Elemental EX or boss stages, most of which require at least a duo, often composed of characters that are hard to obtain and grow—Star EX remains unfarmable for me, for example. The farmable compositions for these stages cost 2 to 5 times more, and while the cards you can obtain are valuable, it's debatable that their value merits such a difference. Now you don't even get the opportunity to at least replenish your SP that runs out much quicker than if you were farming events or main story.
