Slide evolutions are even more imbalanced (Aichiya's hack allows them but only post-game), and mega evolution is not a standard evolution: You can mega-evolve a single Pokémon once per battle and it wears off after knock-out or the battle ends.

The thing is it's unnecessary. Unlike Pokémon, the 1.8x hacks already have alternate formes for many characters. And more importantly, they are balanced, even relative to the ones with just a standard evolution.
