we're the same age and i agree, but with a few extra observations
i think the "good kind of PS" you're talking about involves presenting a more idealised version of the existing face. maybe some blemishes and imperfections are removed, a little more balanced/symmetrical, but overall it still maintains the "spirit" of the original features
it's not that the procedures have gotten less sophisticated, it's that the expectations for what PS is for has changed. it feels less like enhancement of what's already there and more like remodelling and reconstruction into something often quite different. rather than, say, choosing to tidy up the existing nose or lips etc, they're going for a completely different nose or set of lips that perhaps looks good on another celebrity etc. because there are often existing preconceptions and trends of what nice lips/nose/eyes/chin/etc look like, girls consciously or subconsciously may gravitate towards choosing comparable features that fit those standards, resulting in stereotypical and generic results that are also noticeably fake and uncanny because you're seeing them everywhere
ironically, advancements in this particular realm of medicine and surgery have given us technically more difficult and sophisticated ("better") procedures if considered in isolation/from a purely technical standpoint that are actually far less appealing and charmless in the context of facial aesthetics and trends
additionally, the argument for Eimi or AIKA retaining or acquiring appeal post-op kinda relies on the fact that the resulting looks/vibe were so unmistakably and uniquely theirs with an entirely new "spirit" that it sidestepped some of the problems discussed above
