I'd like to preface this by saying I enjoy the story BOARD of Zero more than FSN. I like the way they approach the story from the perspective of every master, as opposed to just Shirou and his harem (in standard eroge fashion every good guy in fsn is (you) and the girls who follow you around and every bad guy is a guy and/or a tragic woman). The actual narrative in FSN is better, but the way the story is approached in Zero is superior in my opinion.

So I was pleasantly surprised when Strange Fake also followed the model of following the perspectives of every party involved. I enjoy the writing a lot, and the plot is interesting. I'm not sure I know where it's headed, however.
but there ARE indeed problems.
>references
this is the big problem. SF is FILLED with references to other nasuverse works. So much so that I don't believe someone could go into this without watching Zero and knowing at least 2 FSN routes. It's fine for the most part but I roll my eyes every time I see "[Character] heard that in a previous grail war, a master blew up an entire building to kill the enemy master inside" and so on.
There's even minor tsukihime references like a few characters who refer to "the spider" or a priest who a Dead Apostle claims is good enough for the Burial Agency. Even a few small FGO references with one BIG reference to Babylonia, albeit you wouldn't technically have to watch Babylonia to get it.
The WORST offenders are when A servant shows his opponent the Banquet of Kings from Zero. Literally a scene from Zero is just abridged and put into SF. completely made me groan.
>time
they play with time too much in SF to show you things in the order they want. It's easy enough to follow, but it's not a straight path from beginning to end. lots of "meanwhile, in the meat packing plant" goes on.
>protagonists
There are 4 clear protagonists: Sigma, False Assassin, Ayaka, and Saber. And if my Nasuverse-fu is as good as I think it is, the final battle will clearly be Sigma vs Alcides, since he's a teenage boy and he's a top servant.

That being said I had a lot of fun reading what's out so far, and the characters are good. Funny, too. Here's an Executor taunting a Vampire.
