Of course he/she's gonna hate you, if it's a house cat, especially in a city, it doesn't have much freedom of eating, so he/she eats a little at first, not finishing all the bowl, but eventually as old saying goes ''appetite grows the more you eat'' , he/she's gonna become even fatter. Cats are meant to be fit, and swift hunters, because that's how they are in nature. Have you ever seen a stray cat that was this obese? On other hand you might have, because people are fucking scum and once they deem their pet useless they will abandon them and leave to die in the street, that is very likely, especially for an overweight cat like that.
