I though my picture already drove the point home, but when people make fun of AKB or idols in general, they don't make fun about idols themselves but their fans. Idols are more often than not just the victims of collateral damage.
If you check what they talk about you on the net, it's almost always "look at the abnormal shit this otaku is doing wwwwww", to which the general response is always "kimoi lol". This is what makes idol hobbies "embarrassing".
By having your wota friends act exactly like one stereotypical wota is expected to behave (not to mention the obnoxious elitism on JP Twitter), you are the target of ridicule as well.
But sadly you are too shut in your own world to realize that.
