Come to think of it, let's forget for a moment we're talking fictional mythical creatures in silly hats in Japanese fantasy land and look at the base ingredients.
Basically, Yukari is a single woman living by herself in a remote location, having another woman taking care of not only the house, but her entire business as she herself is incapacitated 75% of the years. Another woman who - for all we know - she has had no previous long term friendship or acquintance with, no family relation, and doesn't even call by her real name. It's a bit of an unusual arrangement, quite so now and even moreso for the most part of the over 900 years they've both been alive. The kind you rarely see outside niche 19th century novels.

Which leads me to believe that regardless how Yukari "acquired" Ran, perhaps Ran actually enjoys and upholds the way things have turned out.
