For me, there is no one quite like ODA. Her odd blend of elegance and clumsiness, intelligence and dopiness, maturity and youthfulness.
I have never come across another like her, and do not expect to ever do so.

I have seen my daughters grow up and move out and move away and not see me any more. Graduation. Dozens of times.
But only so many times can the emotions sustain themselves. Eventually they begin to fray.
I read the sign on the bridge. A Samaritan message: don't jump, call this number.
I look over the side. I see my girls shimmering in the reflections of the water below.
My tears drop down but they are blown away and evaporated by the wind before they can hit the water. The drop is big and my girls are far away. But I can see them vividly. They are beautiful.
Leg ache. It has been hours, and when I look to the horizon I see the beginnings of a sun. I think of the new generations and walk away.
