In all my years of sampling beers around the world, nothing has managed to beat Westvleteren 12.
The odds of getting it without travelling to Belgium and/or paying ridiculous prices for it are pretty damn low, so I recommend a more achievable Trappist beer; namely, Rochefort. All three are smooth, rich and tasty as hell, but I think the 8 is the most balanced of the three.
