This is true. I'd recommend Sealed as the best event for new players. It's got the 'level playing ground' factor, but without the demanding, skill intensive draft portion.

It can be hard for newer players to see when they're being cut out of a color and such, though. Also there are usually cards which are deceptively good/bad.
