An interesting idea, imo, would be to make the weakness to sun analogous to their age (which is usually analogous to their power). For example have "young" vampires get weakened under the sun, vampires that are over 100 years old also get sunburns easily and feeling tired under the sun and are over 1000 combusting under the sun.
