It's an "option" the same way tithing is "optional" in some churches/cults, it's expected.
Some time ago i saw on twitter a guy complaining that a concafe girl asked him to buy a drink and he didn't, the manager of the place quote tweeted the guy saying he wasn't welcome there, lmao.

I know, they even have rankings and shit so you can support your maid, they are pretty much idols nowadays always sucking their customers dry. But holy shit some of the girls are insanely pretty

I completely agree, if anything concafes have a amazing cost benefit compared to AKB idols for example where you pay 10 dollars to talk to an ugly ass girl like Okada Rina for 10 seconds when she is not even famous and looks worse than random girls on the street

I saw a guy tweeting that concafes are gonna be a strong competition for idols since there are groups doing both now and i agree
