The dog was kept at his parents in Saitama (in a rural mountain village) and one night they called Sugita and told him that Naoji had went missing. He instantly went there and tried searching him in the woods with a flashlight, but couldn't find him and got mad at his parents for not searching harder. Few days later the partial corpse was found and Naoji was buried close to Sugita's grandfather grave.

Sugita recently talked about being in lots of anime together with Genda Tesshou and one of them is about sengoku leaders reincarnating as dogs. The homepage lists everyone on the cast page with dog-related kanji puns (like Horiuchi Kenyuu and Genda Tesshou using the kanji for dog in "Ken" and "Gen", and Sakurai Takahiro and Inoue Kazuhiko replacing their "i" with "inu"). Since "Sugita Tomokazu" didn't lent well to that sort of thing, he just appears as "Sugita Naoji".
