i dont disagree, thinking about life becomes alot more interesting once you accept different people are infact different (and even more interesting once you factor in people who dont think so, and gain lots of popularity and power as a result).

so indeed theres potential. as a perenialist stuff relevant to my interests are beings transcending their limitations to become something greater. certainly many youkai have great power, but what do they do with it? most the lot of them seem little more than hedonists or solipsists, as much in need of a tradition as most humans (though of course on a meta level such things are inevitably bound up in the capacities of the creator to begin with). the fundamental reason mary sues suck after all is not so much that they are strong, but that their character does not reflect their station. or in otherwords, a being like that would not, could not, acquire, or keep, the 'wisdom', power, or influence, they are depicted as having.

desire for control is not the same as will to power, theres a vacuum here for a narrative following a visionary who can chart destiny rather than be dragged along, and that which opposes them, especially from a human perspective (why do bad writers start with sues? because they dont know how to grow).
