I always thought this scene was kind of dumb and was just another case of Nasu's goofy use of awkward sex to try to make a point. However, I recently read the Medea legend and realized it's not dumb, it's just DEEP. In the legend Medea is betrayed by the man who claimed to love her, but Souichiro is a reversal of Jason. Jason was a pussy who Medea did all the work for and he ultimately leaves her for a younger, hotter princess. Soichirou is a sociopathic murderer who never claims to love Medea, but is loyal to her even after her death.
