Yes, she's extremely rebellious and told her mom to eat shit and die when she forbid her from marrying a yakuza boss and renounced the role of the head of the family. So Akane got her fingernails ripped out for her insolence. She apparently softened up since she does act as an intimidating intermediary of sorts between Oryou and the others in certain meetings much like Mion does, but outside of them she instantly becomes playful and impish much like Shion.
