There's no reason to be stingy with suspects. If somebody is clearly unnecessary for theory, leave him out, but otherwise you can have all the suspects you can eat. No rule says there should be only one or two.

Try this crazy idea on for size: EVERY single character, due to some already speculated reason or being just crazy, some unaware of each other or in cooperation, attempts to kill somebody. You'll find this kind of nuke theory is impossible to disprove.
