I think the FGO plot outline and main cast made for the outline (even retconned part 2) is pretty good, way better than whatever Nasu did on Extra. But it has negative drawbacks: First one, it's a fucking mobage, which makes the writing awkward and short first (cut by "enemy attacking"). It also implies a passive silent "protagonist" which is completely out of focus in the story (Mashu should have been the actual protagonist). Second, is a huge cast of filler that kept appearing because they need to sell them for the gacha as is a mobage. Third, is that sometimes because the story isn't contained in one go, but slowly released, the characters relationships and portrayal will be fucked over things Nasu is trying to 'hide'. This is later retconned in adaptations made after the "mystery" is revealed, so the characters act in a logical manner from the beginning.
I enjoy FGO, but I also hate the waste of potential.
