The British Empire abolished slavery and diverted a portion of it's vast fleets to combat it in the heartland of slavery, Africa. Because of this they gave up the America's.

The british also completely removed caste systems in most of the backwards countries they occupied. Prevented mass genocides between tribes and united the people of that country. Not to mention the vast investments of infrastructure, leaving railways to connect parts of those nations which had been long forgotten, hospitals, structured armies, democracy under the King, the greatest judicial system in the world and made previously destroyed and hated people free and equal to their peers whilst also adhering to most of the cultural beliefs and norms of those vassal states.

There were great famines under the British rule. As there were great wars between the British and nationalists who wished to break away. At times massacres too.

However the good the Empire brought far outweighs these things. Were it not for the British empire the world would be a far worse place.
