When I read MGEish fiction, it bothers me a lot if I have no idea what the gender ratio is supposed to be in it - is it 1:1.2 or 1:2 or 1:10. Societies with different ratios would work out very differently. It makes the reading effort nervous if something like that is unclear.

I think the ideal ratio would be between 1:1.5 and 1:3 (not counting scarabs and other horde monsters). Any less than that, and there's not enough waifu in the world; any more, and you are a circus animal and cannot really "participate" in society.
