“Hey, you two, are you sure you want to be crossing this bridge? Old Hell is dangerous for surface dwellers after all.” a voice spoke up.
Before us stood a young-looking short woman with blonde hair and green eyes, who seemed oddly normal for being this far underground. I always assumed subterranean Youkai were a bit more fearsome, but I guess that’s just prejudice.
“Eh, I’m not impressed so far.” Seija said with her hand behind her head. “We can handle ourselves, so piss off.”
“Very well, I wish you a pleasant stay.” The lady told us, letting us pass.
“…you damn ugly, mis-matched couple…” I heard whispered.
“Now just-“Seija began.
“Miss.” I interjected. “Are you the type of girl we’re allowed to punch?” I ask cheerfully.
“W-what?” She stammered. “What kind of question is that?! How’re you so brazen and calm at the same time? Is that why you’re with this delinquent. Break up immediately you two pees in a pod!” She yelled.
The polite, cheerful girl that once stood before us was now spiteful, bitter, and the very image of what I expected from the Underground. When in Rome or so I’ve heard.
“Damnit, I’m jealous of two confident looking people being a couple. Where’s the balance? How did you two meet even? And a Youkai on Human relationship? There’s no human prince who would make his way down here to sweep me off my feet! Bring some of your men down here already! Or better yet just have everyone break up already! It’s all unsightly after all!” She said, biting her sleeve in frustration.
“Oh gladly.” I said, grabbing her hands. “If you take her place, I’ll have a jade eye beauty like you as my bridge bride in a heartbeat.”
“y-y-you…” She started.
“You know Goro, I will kill you if you cheat, but if it’s with such a good girl like this I might make it quick and painless.” Seija smiled.
“Stop it! Taking pity on someone like me who can’t be so nice, I really hate it!”
“Well, if you’re not satisfied with me, I could bring a few bachelor candidates. There’s a surprising number of men available in the village you know. I bet it’s because they prefer sharp-tongue women like yourself.” I commented.
She finally pulled her hands away from me and clasped them over my face. “Just go, I can’t stand being around such a sick couple for any longer. It’s not even worth attacking you two.”
“I think I like here.” Seija laughed as we finished cross the bridge into Old Hell.
