I don't know why but I always gravitated towards women who looked differently than me/were exotic. When I was a child I liked redheads because red hair is rare. Then I liked asians, latinas and other ethnic women because non-whites were rare where I lived. Then I started getting into fantasy races like elves and orcs, then I discovered catgirls and it all fell into place.
