Pander too much to your audience, and you risk diluting your reporting with unimportant content and unhelpful sensationalism.
Cater too little to your readers, and you risk losing them to more interesting/accessible publications.

Gensokyo is no different from any newspaper or radio station you or I might choose to patronize. I believe that Bunbunmaru is described as one of those papers that people flick through while snacking at a tea house, though I can't remember where. Sounds like Aya is writing for a market of bored assholes with lots of shitty opinions.

I'm sure their rivalry is more playful than sinister.
