I'm not 100% sure about every retailer, but normally there are different fixed percentages that everyone who was involved in the production and sale of the song gets. record label, agency, manufacturer, retailer all get a cut. the record label and retailer for example often each get between 20% and 40% off the sales price, much more than the 1% to 3% off Kyan.
So if Kyan would theoretically sell 4000 copies of the song for 300¥ that's 1200000¥, but Kyan only gets 1% of this. So Kyan ends up with a whooping 12000¥, roughly $120. Even if she'd get 4% or 5%, she'd only make around $600.
As an artist under contract of a record label you have to sell stupid amounts of CDs to make a living.
