I think you might be joking, but in case you aren't: this is basically Ryuukishi's signature style. He really enjoys just blatantly dangling the solution in front of the readers eyes while still managing to trick them into not realizing it.

Here's one example off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure he does stuff like this at least five times in Onikakushi-hen and Ep 1 alone.
