Love is about compromise. Even the purest deredere childhood friend story will involve compromise, it's unavoidable. And not getting what someone wants. The most basic cookie cutter yandere stories are about a guy rejecting a girl but ending up with her anyway. It's the guy not getting what he wants for the entire scenario.
If you're assuming yanderes have to be jealous and/or murderous, that's not how it works. It's a "sick love", it can mean a LOT of things. Self harm. Harming the lover.
