A none-AV example would be Meiko Nakahara, she was a City Pop singer through the 80s and 90s and she completely disappeared from public life. Nobody knows her whereabouts as of today. She basically got tired of music and performing and called it quits. What we do know is that she lived in New York for a time before moving back to Japan. She legitimately has not been seen since the she retired.

What's most likely is she's just living alone or with her family and just doesn't go out very much.
