Personally I think the Sonic fandom is slightly different then the general Furry community, as I said before it's a different mentality that comes with obsessing over Sonic characters and the common features of the universe rather then the actual anthropomorphic nature of it.

For example, when you see Sonic art, it usually concentrates on getting the style you find within their universe. The concentration is to fit within the Sonic setting, not the actual animal features with a eerie attention to detail and focus on animalistic totems and all that shit. It's a cartoon too them.

That isn't to say that Sonic fans aren't on the road to becoming Furries themselves, just that they are sort of like furries in denial. Basically it's the stage before you get furries for most of them (though some will be long past that point, there are shared interests after all).

It's like being obsessed with Disney's Robin Hood, it starts out as a attraction to the style and the characters, but may eventually grow into more.
