A nip mentioned on futaba that based on their shoulder insignia, Fusou and Yamashiro have the rank of Lieutenant (大尉) but after looking at the insignia for the IJN, it didn't match with Lieutenant but instead more closely with Rear-Admiral. Rear-Admiral also happens to be the rank that Masami Ban, skipper of Fusou, and Shinoda Katsukiyo, skipper of Yamashiro, were promoted to some weeks before Leyte. How does it feel to know your ships can outrank you if you're too lazy?
