Can we have a HRtP appreciation thread? This board is full of Touhou but I barely see any art of the first game.

The miko of a shrine is often the daughter of the resident priest. So since the Hakurei shrine doesn't seem to have any obvious tradition of priests, it's not unthinkable that the position as Hakurei miko is passed down from mother to daughter.

That leaves the question what happened to the priests, if ever there were any. Shingyoku is/are the only one(s) associated with the shrine other than Reimu who seem to be religious characters, both of which seem extremely ancient. I'm a bit rusty on the history of the shrine, but it would seem the Hakurei shrine has existed in some form for a very long time, far longer than Gensokyo or the Hakurei border have been around.

It's hard to believe, but Konngara is indeed a woman.
Shingyoku however comes in both male and female versions, which I'm not quite sure what it's all about. Supposedly male version is a priest or nobleman, while female version is a shamaness/ancient miko.

Danbooru claims the beast youkai to be Shingyoku, but I'm having trouble seeing this...
