There is 8 year gap between Kakyuusei 1 and 2, and and 9 year gap between Doukyuusei 2 and Kakyuusei 2. People changed, the market changed, so is their expectation for heroines and themes in their games. Elf know they have strong baseline for their IP, but they still have to market it for the new folks. Elf's failure to account for the current market's expectation for their great comeback (or they know it but went ahead with the "subvert expectation from main heroine" thing anyway) ends up shotting themselves on the foot.
