Nanjo pulls back his stethoscope from Kinzo's bare chest. He tuts under his breath.
Kinzo: "Why do you tut, old friend? Is it bad news? No bad news could worsen my miserable life, so out with it!"
Nanjo puts the stethoscope back into his lab coat pocket gently and turns around to face Kinzo. To his astonishment and (he repressed this thought) excitement, Kinzo's shirt was still left unbuttoned.
Nanjo: "Old friend, you call me? If you want the truth, I have given it to you countless times. If you wish to be here next year, you must stop your habit of enjoying absinthe."
Kinzo kept Nanjo's gaze. Nanjo often thought Kinzo's eyes were a source of brilliant light, like the blazing sun. One could not stare into those blazing eyes for long before averting one's gaze.
A silence stretched.
Kinzo: "...Do you...still wish me to be here next year...old friend?"
This sentence, spoken into the silence caught Nanjo off guard, but he managed to hide it. He looked away from those burning eyes and muttered: "Of course...of course I want you to..."
Kinzo, with his shirt still unbuttoned, reached for his left nipple with his right hand and softly played with it. Nanjo looked at Kinzo again and recoiled at the sight of the old man fondling himself.
