Deep in the inquisition's great library, Dlanor was working. The explosive retrial had called for a great deal of new paperwork, and she would not know sleep until it was finished.
Once more she wiped her glasses. They had been fogged from the cup of steaming hot tea Cornelia had prepared, who sat with Gertrude on the other end of the table helping Dlanor with the records. There was no sound but the folding of books, the crisp turn of paper, and the scribble of their fountain pens.

Dlanor teetered a bit on the pile of books stacked on her chair. She tended to spend a lot of time sitting because she had to struggle to climb it every time. Gertrude and Cornelia were forbidden from helping. That was fine with them, because it was fucking moe.

Dlanor loved the case notes. For one who fights on a conceptual level, wordplay is no different than swordplay, and the records she read were both the unfolding of her greatest battles and the birth of new mysteries.
