At any rate I hope the contest brings out new people and that anyone who doesn't win still uses it to bounce into a new career as writefags

Been a while since I last played it, but I could swear that Age of Fire as Gwyn did it was against nature and prolonging it was not 100% a good thing. I didn't like the idea of the cycle that DS2 introduced.

Everyone is shit at everything in the beginning. Yeah, some people can learn faster or start off better than others, but the best of their crafts are people that realized they were shit and just kept doing it anyway and eventually they started being good. Try finding a community to write stories for. I wrote a few stories for this place long ago and I absolutely hated them. I thought they were complete cringey garbage. I decided to look into my old pastebin account a few days ago and I've had thousands of reads. Yeah, most people may have hated it, but statistically someone probably enjoyed it or else it'd be a dead zone. Competitions can have massive numbers of people send their stories in. Just because you didn't get mentioned, doesn't mean that you're hopeless. It just that you have room to improve. So go on and make your shitty little stories, write cringey fanfics, or >>39702393 . You'll get people telling you to fuck off and die. You'll get people that tell you you're bad. But every now and then you'll get a message saying that they liked your story, and that makes it worth trying again.

I have seen many stories that started off being just some online hobby get turned into actual books. If you go on sites like royalroad and fiction press you can find several stories like that. Remember the shitty smut that was 50 shades of gray? It's a reskinned twilight fanfic that blew up and got published. That shit got a damn movie. You can also self publish if you could and I've heard it's actually better off doing that. Not an expert on that, so you're on your own there, but it's possible. If you can build a fanbase, you can sell a story. Keep your day job and write as a hobby. Start a patreon or something for if someone wants to support you. And if one of your stories takes off one day, maybe you can start selling hard copies.
