Even in the 80s and 90s, I always preferred nice photography of girls over hardcore porn. I think nude photography is very difficult to make look dignified. Also this may just be me, but I definitely have a submissive side to myself. I tend to put girls on a pedestal if they deserve it and worship them. Even before the internet age, I always liked to imagine the smell and I get more pleasure from looking at girls who take care of themselves and maintain a nice body and cute character, rather than seeing slobs getting rammed by a dozen dicks. Gravure gives me the chance to admire beautiful and cute girls in nicely taken photos. Believe it or not, but I never ever imagine fucking idols, not even when I fap to them. But instead I imagine all kinds of sensual things, like what different parts smell and feel like, or obediently sucking her toes or licking her ass. I somehow never do that with porn girls. They seem so emotionally bankrupt to me that I pity them. Gravure girls are like distant, beautiful entities whose works I buy and collect. I also like to look at my collection from 15 years ago and delve in the memories. I rarely look at porn I saved a decade ago. But I regularly have conversations with others about comparing legendary gravure idols of the past with today's. In that aspect gravure is much alike sports and trading cards we used to collect and trade in the school yard as kids. A part of me also likes that gravure idols have a much higher chance of ageing gracefully and retiring before they hit the wall. Most porn girls enter at 18 and already look like moldy brick wall 2 years later. There are rare exceptions like Veronica Rodriguez who is genuinely gorgeous woman and she's very good at sucking and fucking. But most girls just get ruined by the porn biz.

TL;DR: I like gravure because it's a hobby that stimulates my senses and I appreciate the beauty and character of the girls. Porn has a time and place, but it's sterile and soulless product to me and most girls neither excel nor stay pretty while doing it.
