It happens a lot. I'd say the wide majority of idols end up in 'poverty' if they don't get married or establish a lasting career.

Being an 'idol' in Japan is not as glamorous as it appears. It's merely a means for young women to advertise themselves on the marriage market these days. Until the highest bidder catches her.

Take for example Akina Miyazato. (pic related) She was in a moderately successful group called 'Folder 5' during the early 2000s. (they sang the 2nd opening to One Piece) Still she sank into mediocrity and eventually vanished, only to come back a few years later as a 'gravure idol', doing lewd photo books as advertisement, until some slimy 10 year older guy married her of the market and immediately impregnated her.

Young girls always dream of singing, dancing, acting or modelling. The agencies take advantage of that and squeeze them out, then drop them to neetbux.
