Probably wasn't much of anything extraordinary anyway. I mean, there's bound to be hundreds if not thousands of shrines with some sort of fox deity.

Always enjoyed mythology, including the new interpretations of old myths and legends. Or on the occasion where the artist/author has taken some liberties, it is interesting to see how they have interpreted (sometimes twisted) the classic tale to suit their own visions.
Mythical creatures have been around forever - what we're seeing here is only the latest retelling of the tale. Told through a different medium and by different people, but part of the same mythology.
