The invasion happened like a decade ago when Moot told everyone at AWA that /jp/ was his favorite board. This was around the time /b/ was still a dominant board culture, so we got a bunch of chucklefucks and memes of the ancients.

Before that, /jp/ was very slow, very cozy, very insular, and it had more wholesome engagement throughout the board. We'd also get visits from Moot and Japanese nationals, and hilarity would ensue from that. There was a clear discontinuity in the /jp/ culture after Moot's public statement made the whole of 4chan aware of its existence, and everything else sort of continued from that.

It's been tainted by normie shit for nearly 10 years now, as this was also not long after rage comics made it to Facebook and normies started using the site because they had just learned about Internet memes in the few years beforehand. 2022 is well beyond the stage of complaining about the board having changed.
