I've been playing for the past month or so and it really is fun.
Biggest downside is massively overpowered russian planes which gets increasingly noticeable in higher ranks, like with the Yak-9K.

Japanese planes are probably the most fun to me. The Ki-43 Hayabusa can outmaneuver everything and has machine guns that can rip even Rank IV planes to shreds despite being Rank I.
The German Bf 110 is a similar Rank I powerhouse that can withstand insane amounts of damage while dealing a lot.
