Sure they're not smeared in blood and holding up a severed goat's head like some kvlt Norwegian black metal band, but they're not having a pillow fight next to a basket of puppies either.

They're just doing the Fox sign towards the camera.

They're trying to be totally grim and kvlt and totally angry like your average metal band, but they're not trying to be KAWAII UGUU~.

They ARE cute even when they're not trying to be, but that's just who they are.

The modern Babymetal image itself, however, isn't idol material. Spikes and studs or dressing up like some sort of neo-goth wouldn't really be acceptable on your average jr. high school girl, outside of Halloween or cosplay events.

Part of being an idol is having an acceptable image, something that Babymetal doesn't have for day-to-day life.
