Gravure idols are objectively very attractive, that's obvious. But how many girls are out there of the same caliber who have no interest in doing gravure? It's not like every attractive young girl joins Miss Magazine every year, it takes a lot of work, courage and dedication, also supportive parents in the case of younger girls, to the point that I think that the filter for these traits combined might be as strong as the filter for attractiveness. I think the really good gravure idols have exceptional bodies and at least cute faces. We fall in love with them because they're presented to us in a way that is as conducive to fantasizing about them as possible. I personally look at slight flaws and my brain turns them into charm points, like Marina's ears, Aika's teeth (until she fixed them) or the fact that Hina's left boob is bigger than her right boob. There are girls who have perfect boobs, but I don't follow them and I don't look for new gravure releases of them.
What I'm saying is that the raw material must be good, but everything else (the poses, expressions, outfit, lighting, interviews, social media) has to capture me in a way or else I won't be really interested in the long run.
