That was a long time ago, anon. As early as the Heian period, the guardian animals would've been both a guardian lion and the komainu that Aunn is based off of, which has the iconic horn. Eventually, both animals would become komainu in newer shrines, and since the Hakurei Shrine most likely hasn't been around since before the Heian period, it's more likely Aunn would be a komainu instead of a lion.
